Drupal's default home page appears when I enter my site's address, it reads, "Welcome to your new Drupal site!.....etc." But I don't want the public to see that page, I want it to go directly to the home page I created. Please let me know how to change this.

First create your new home page node. Then go to your Site Information settings here:

/admin/settings/site-information

Look for the Default front page field at the bottom and put your new node into that field. So if it's node/2, type in node/2 into that field. Then refresh your home page and you'll see your new home page.
