Hello,
I'm having all kinds of issues getting Drupal to install on my local MAMP installation on my Mac and in Windows under XAMP. I'm pretty sure I have all the settings correct, as I get the set up screen fine, it just refuses to connect to the database and keep getting "permission" errors and errors that it doesn't recognize the username and password. However I'm able to install Wordpress with absolutely no troubles.

Can you provide more detail and the actual error messages you're getting? Submit screenshots of your issue(s) as well - that will help to diagnose.
