Google Trends: Drupal vs. Wordpress Searches
Simon Pole - May 12, 2006 - 03:35
Google just released a new tool called Google Trends that charts the popularity of keyword searches over time.
A blogger has compared searches for the major blogging cms packages (including Drupal, which is not exactly in the same category).
The results are interesting though, with Wordpress the clear favourite, with Drupal next (both increasing over time), and Moveable Type declining since they went to a commercial license,

Austin?
It's interesting that the #1 USA city for "drupal" is Austin. I'm in Austin, anybody else out there? Is there an Austin drupal user group? It could just be me searching for 1000 different drupal things everyday. :-)

I'm in Austin as well
I tried a similar search: drupal, number one city
...and came up with similar results, i.e., Austin as the top U.S. city followed closely by San Francisco. I can understand Vancouver being #2 due to Bryght, but why is Budapest #1?
I think Google's explanation helps clarify this a bit. Austin's high ranking might also be due to the fact that back in March we had the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) which includes a huge web interactive portion and just last week we had the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT). Perhaps many participants were interested in Drupal?
Hmmm. Well, there are at least a few of us here in the Live Music Capital of the World. :) And yes, of course there is a Austin Drupal group. Recently, the Austin group doubled when I joined, meaning we're now at a membership of two. ;) So please join & spread the word!

Hey, I'm in Vancouver too, ;-).
And, I do usually google to get to Drupal, much easier than bookmarks.

Thanks for being interested
Thanks for being interested in my quick post. Just so you know, I included the tools I'm designing sites for and my experience reflects the google search trends. I'm doing more and more sites in Wordpress and Drupal, and hardly any in MovableType.
Cheers!
