Expanding existing module user interface for adding a node?

Hi All,

I am wanting to use the auction module in the e-commerce suite, but am wanting to be able to create a list of fields for specific information for a user to fill in when posting their auction. CCK and Flexinode seem great for building custom content types from scratch, but what about when you want to build on an existing content type? I'd really appreciate any input here.

From the Drupaldocs site, a nodeapi example module: How to extend existing content types

I don't really have much more to offer than that - I've haven't yet extended a node type myself :)

Thanks for the reply. So I take it there is no CCK/Flexinode style module that'll let you do this just through the Drupal interface? Not that it should be a problem, but if there were it would make things so much easier for putting together a quick mock-up system to a clients specifications.

that to extend an existing node type coding is your only option - but I could be wrong.

Until someone comes up with a CCK compatible auction type that is (I suppose). Once there is a much richer variety of CCK building blocks it should get easier.
