Hi,

I am new to CMS develoment, but I have solid skills on xhtml, css, jquery/prototype/scriptaculous and Flash. I also know the basics of PHP and am intersted to learn more. I would like to be able to build ecommerce webstores with product lists, shopping carts and payment systems. Also social sites with discussion forums such as this. But most of all I would really like to be able to produce the frontend xhtml, css, flash elements and javascript interactions by writing the codemy self instead of something generated. This way I would get the exact appearence for the site which I am looking for. I hate the way Joomla generates everyhing with tables, because I am more of a div developer.

So is Drupal right for me? Should I wait for D7 or start learning right away with 6? Where are the best resources for learning? Best Books (perhaps something about D7..)

Thanks for all answers!

Drupal can do this no problem-- you'll want to look at the http://drupal.org/project/ubercart series of modules for ecommerce. As for front end code, that's all handled by the theming system which is incredibly flexible. See http://drupal.org/theme-guide/6 for more info.

I would go ahead and start with d6.
