This is a very promising module. When will you back port the commits to the D6 branch?
As I seen, currently you only develop for the D7 branch. (We would like to use media, but we only developing for Drupal 6.)
Please update the "Media Module Development Milestones" page, where you state that D7 port will be implemented in the alpha stage. http://groups.drupal.org/node/19799

aaron commentedWe plan for the first alpha this week, in d7. I'm not sure when we'll get to the d6 branch; depends on if any of the developers has an itch to scratch... (this is an open invitation for anyone interest.... ;)

aaron commentedc7 alpha is getting closer, which means this should be soon. probably won't really happen until after the release of d7 at this point, however, after which the demand for d6 modules will begin to decrease. hopefully we'll get to this before the point of diminishing returns...

aaron commentedmarking as postponed for now

Flying Drupalist commentedSoo... there's really no chance of seeing a backport before D7? Am I correct in reading this to mean that there probably won't ever be a backport?
JacobSingh commentedYep, I'm pretty confident, unless you want to take fields and the image API with it, there will never be a 6x backport of media.

kobnim commentedHi,
Any truth to the rumor that there are now plans to backport the Media module to D6? This was posted by Alex UA, the emfield module maintainer (http://drupal.org/node/497642):
JacobSingh commentedNot that I know of. If Alex plans to backport it himself then more power to him, but my intuition says this is not going to happen.
@Alex?

Scott J commentedkobnim,
It looks like Aaron is building a de facto media for D6 with Node Reference/Embed Media Browser and Styles 6.x-2.x modules. Much of the functionality will be available for D6 even without an actual module called 'Media'.

JacobSingh commentedUnless we hear otherwise... cleaning up the issue queue and marking closed.

ClearXS commented"after the release of d7 at this point, however, after which the demand for d6 modules will begin to decrease"
The reality is opposite: almost all use D6 and almost none uses D7; that situation will continue for up to a year. Most sites need many functional modules for their goals and it will take that time before the average site can step over.
For those sites it might be easier to step over using the same or less modules to D7. On contrary, it might for most be more problematic to have some "Node Reference/Embed Media Browser and Styles 6.x-2.x modules"y setting, to get that over to media D7 in the proper way?
Yes, I have media installed for D6; some latest release I found some time ago. But not activated, more for research purposes and to track an eventual new release from within my drupal install with a module that tracks updates for non-activated modules.
Anyway, I won't re-open, as that only makes sense if (a) developer(s) has time & motivation for this..!
