Error creating cache folders

I have just change to D6 and tried to use the module in a new installation, where the following error appeared

Failed to create directory /cache/4.
Failed to create directory .
Failed to create directory /cache.
Failed to create directory /cache/8.
Failed to create directory /cache/4.

The interesting thing is that the cache directories are created.
