I am initially using a multisite system and I want the additional site to inherit the configuration of the first domain, but with its own users and content.

I have enabled lots of modules with my preferred settings and also have quite a number of content types, input formats, taxonomy defaults, etc which have lots of settings applied to them. Recreating each of them for each added multisite is a nightmare.

Is Domain Access the right module for this job? The content, styles, themes and users can be different, but the configuration has to be the same.

You could use it that way. with a little tweaking like using Domain Prefix on the user tables, but normally, this is not the recommended use.

DA is not meant to replace multisite, but to make sharing content across sites easier.

I have already setup the multisite and it is working to my satisfaction initially, as I am able to work around issues as the crop up. I think if I make sure that content posts and content are restricted to their own domains, I should be fine.

I think moving out a domain will simple be a matter of copying the database and deleting users and content that belong to other domains (fingers crossed).

Is there some documentation on Domain Prefix? I would like to look it up later.

Thanks for the Domain Access module.

It looks like it will help me a lot.

Domain Prefix comes with the download and has its own README file.
