I am curious if it is possible to combine column data for different fields

Let me share my example,

I have users who upload videos by the video module which generates a thumbnail. I also have users load youtube videos with Media Embed CCK which generates a thumbnail

I would like for all thumbnails to appear in the same column in a table view

i now get two columns, one for the thumbnail for Video module and one for the CCK

Assuming you're using the table style, the table style options (click the gear) lets you control which fields show up in which columns.
