I was importing an excisting codebase with one site in it, (My very first import..) and screwed things up, so I decided to remove the autoimported site, and the platform that I had just imported, and start over again.
After being done removing, I suddenly discovered that the hostmaster site was gone from my list of websites, and allso the platform that hostmaster uses. I have not removed these!, and Aegir still works. ( successfully reimported the new platform later). It's just that the hostmaster site and platform are gone.
Is this very bad?, considering that I would want any upgrade path to later versions of Aegir to work. Allso, can I get the site and platform back, without messing up everything?

Any help understanding this will be received with great gratitude.

This is rather bizarre, I can't think of anything that might cause this.

Do the site and platform nodes still exist in Aegir? i.e if you go to /admin/content/node on your site and filter the content list for nodes of type Platform, and nodes of type Site, are the main hostmaster platform and site there? Can you view the nodes?

If you are able to view the nodes, are you able to run the Verify task on them?

Do you mean that the platform and site are not shown in the frontend, i.e in http://yoursite.com/hosting/sites ? But they still obviously exist on the server itself?

so I decided to remove the autoimported site, and the platform that I had just imported, and start over again.

What was the procedure you followed here for removing the imported site and platform? Did you Disable, then Delete the site? Did you delete the site and platform nodes afterward? (not necessary). Possibly you deleted the wrong nodes?

Thank you for replying
Neither the site, nor the platform node exists.

The platform and site, with database and everything still exists and is functioning, but you understand me correctly when stating that they do not show in the frontend.

I am not entirely sure about the procedure I followed, as I have a bad habit of clicking first, and thinking afterwards...
But this is roughly how it went:
After not reading the docs all the way through before going ahead importing the platform, I was surprised when the site as well as the platform got imported. I was not prepared for this, and thus the import (or was it verify) task of the site failed due to wrong database credentials.
I then went ahead and deleted the site (I believe it was not yet enabled). The deletion failed (again due to bad credentials for the database) and I could not get rid of the site node. When this all failed I got the bright Idea of deleting the entire platform (as there was only this new site running the platform) and starting over again. When I deleted the platform I was pleased to see the Site go with it. Until I discovered that the hostmaster site, and the platform it was running from was gone.
I deleted only one site, and only one platform, and I'm quite certain neither where the hostmaster ones.

It sounds like perhaps the wrong nodes were deleted in the frontend. If anything, aegir tends to not delete nodes even when it deletes stuff from the backend, so missing nodes in the frontend is strange.

At this stage, I would suggest you go Create Content > Platform and add the main hostmaster platform again manually through the frontend. It will then launch a Verify task of the platform in the backend, which clearly still exists.

And then because the site node is missing in the frontend, it *should* trigger an Import task of the main hostmaster/aegir site.

I was surprised when the site as well as the platform got imported.

There is no such thing as a Platform being imported in Aegir.. perhaps this was a Verify task?

It sounds like the first Verify task of the first platform, and the subsequent Import of the main aegir site that kicks off towards the end of the installation, were mistaken as imports of your production site and they got deleted.. maybe? Not sure. In any case it is normal for the main aegir site and platform to exist as nodes in the frontend - they are treated (almost) like any other site.

I have noe re-added the platform, and the hostmaster site re-imported and veryfied. Thank you very much for your assistance.
