Hey there!

I'm building a social network site at the moment. For the "Wall" function on the users homepage, i took two modules into consideration; Guestbook and Facebook-style statuses.
I still haven't decided which one yet, as my page is not quite finished. As far as i can see, it seems that the Facebook-style statuses module is a bit more developed at the moment. There are many other modules that support FSS, like Activity and Views.
Guestbook doesn't offer that, from what i have seen so far. But there is a new Guestbook 2 on the way with many new functionalities.

I'm just curious to know what you decided to use for your "Wall"? Or thoughts that you have on the subject? Is it worth waiting for Guestbook 2 and to use Guestbook1 in the meantime? Or is the FSS module a safe way to go?

Hi, I'm the Facebook-style Statuses maintainer. I think all it will take to convince you that Facebook-style Statuses will fit your needs better is the demo site. Facebook-style Statuses is indeed more developed; and not only is it extremely flexible and powerful, but the documentation is very complete and I maintain constant support for the module. Guestbook hasn't been updated since July, the support for it isn't remotely as solid, and even the 2.x branch has way fewer features and much less flexibility than FBSS does. In fact, sooner or later I'm going to discuss with the Guestbook maintainer retiring most of the Guestbook module in order to let it focus on its main strength, a single site-wide guestbook.

There are plenty of more specific reasons, but I think actually trying the modules out will demonstrate beyond doubt how much more compelling FBSS is.
