bekasu commentedSteven,
You are correct that the page needs some love.
I've been folding comments into it for a few days and have more to go. If you see things that could be improved, please feel free to edit the page. Help is welcome.
Not sure about the MAMP reference, I thought we had moved all those specific installers (mamp, lamp, wamp) to child pages. I'll look into it.

arianek commentedjust updated the page status to "needs updating"

steven jones commentedThe MAMP bit was the in 'Requirements' section, I've removed it now.
The 'Requirements' section just doesn't say much really, it confuses more than it helps. I think it should be more of a bulleted list of what the requirements are. Webserver, capable of running PHP. DB. etc.

lp commentedI realize the listed audience for the doc includes "Developers and coders," but this page is quite lengthy when compared to other software requirement lists:
(off the top of my head)
http://piwik.org/docs/requirements/
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Requirements
and even the somewhat lengthy
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Installation_requirements
not even gonna link to WP, because you really sorta already know what it looks like.
Would the server, DB & PHP requirements sections be appropriate for sub-pages?
Could they be better presented, with comments and updates specific to progress in those areas, ala the very specific MediaWiki PHP config page, which is linked to from the requirements:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/PHP_configuration

arianek commentedI do think it's important to keep all of the MAMP/WAMP/LAMP type requirements all in one place, so despite the page being fairly long, I think that it's pretty clear and appropriately arranged.
The one piece I guess could conceivably be moved is the specifics about the PHP settings. But I'd definitely want to get some others opinions on that before making the changes.

larowlanWhat about an overview section at the top for the impatient, just a half dozen bullet points with a title like 'Overview' or similar? Most will read that and get what they're looking for. The bullet points can link to the detail in the text.

jhodgdonI don't think an overview is necessary on http://drupal.org/requirements actually. I've added a table of contents to the top of the page, which I think will help. I think maybe the page is OK now... the original reported problem has been resolved, and I think the TOC helps. Thoughts?
