With Imagefield Crop and Boost enabled, my CPU usage went through the roof, and the site ran really really slowly at times. After disabling Imagefield Crop, CPU usage has dropped down to sustainable levels and the site is OK again.

Is it possible that Imagefield Crop puts a lot of pressure on the CPU?

Imagefield_crop is only active when users are cropping images - it does not do anything during normal site browsing. And even if you will have many users cropping images at the same time, it should not be heavier than imagecache on the CPU.
Boost OTOH is supposed to reduce your CPU load, so that leads me to believe you have something else going on your system.

Closing. Reopen if you have new info on this.

Yes, I've found that it isn't Imagefield Crop as well. I enabled and disabled Imagefield Crop a few times. I was getting random-looking fluctuations, so I think the first time it appeared to be Imagefield Crop was just a false alarm.

I believe it was Boost's crawler function.
