leave focus after filtering takes place

Could the filtering action either leave or return the focus to the filtering element? I use this with a text box when I do a live filter on a long wordlist and I would prefer if I could continue typing in the filter textbox after the filter is applied (say I want add a letter to the filtered text). Now I need to click to the textbox at the end of what I've written so far.
