Is there somebody out there who uses services of aplus.net and runs Drupal 6.x website with them?
They did an upgrade of their services 2 weeks ago.

According to them, they did the following:

"The new servers are hosted on a clustered environment, offering increased scalability and reliability for your web and email services. This load-balanced platform is built to accommodate large fluctuations in traffic, delivering consistent web and email performance and faster control panel functionality."

If you use their services, does your Drupal web site run properly?

I have 5 web sites with them and all of them run 5-10 slower.
In some cases the web site cannot show the list of modules - it runs for more than 3 minutes and dies ...

Any idea/recommendation what can I do?

I can have someone try to help you out if you can provide some more information so we can locate your account. Email your information to marketing@aplus.net and I'll forward on to a tech to see if they can resolve this for you.

UPDATE:

Never mind. After a struggle, I was finally able to install Drupal. Less than stellar tech support, coupled with my inability to articulate my questions with the appropriate IT jargon, challenged my patience and determination. But now my Drupal site is up and I'm taking baby steps. Onward.

I have been using APlus for 5+ years now -- for static HTML sites and domain parking.

Their service and support have been A++. Fast, no down time, easy to reach live support 24/7.

HOWEVER . . . I am in the process of developing a major web portal using Drupal. And my opinion about APlus is changing. Their so-called "upgrade" has made it impossible to work with my subdomains online until I delete them and reinstall them in the new public folder. And I was told that mastering the upgrade means a learning curve for doing things in new ways. (I've had enough of new learning curves with Microsoft Vista and Office 2007!).

Their File Manager has small type, an un-resizable window, and is downright awful. Their live support has declined. In a recent call about one of my sites, I was not asked to provide any security-related information.

In another call I was told that APlus does not support Dreamweaver! Huh! Do they want to host serious sites? And, I have known that APlus does not support Drupal.

So now I have concluded that it's time to switch hosts. Two discussions with Tech Support personnel have diminished my confidence in the company.

I am searching for a new host.

I recently took on a redesign job for a client who was hosted on aplus. I used their auto-installer for wordpress, and it didn't work, and there were other problems that prevented me from doing a manual install. It took them over two weeks to even respond, and that was with me calling/emailing every few days. By the time they fixed the wordpress issue 3 weeks had passed and I'd already gotten the client set up on a different host.

It's true it was easy to reach their support but their support were of no help whatsoever. They tagged my ticket as top priority--no response. It was passed on to a supervisor...no response. A week after I'd given up I got an auto-response saying the ticket was closed.

Looks like everyone all have at least successfully uploaded and have your Drupal sites running. I've just designed my first Drupal site on my Mac using localhost. Now, I'm trying to test it on my Aplus server. I've been able to upload the files, import the MySQL databases, but the site is still not running--(site off-line). I've tried to change the codes in the settings.php [ $db_url = 'mysqli://root:root@localhost/cp4'; ] but am not sure what to put there. Talking to Aplus tech support was no help. They told me that I need to modify codes within Drupal, which brought me here.

Can anyone help me?

It's aids a great deal to read the comments about the area that you are editing in settings.php

what goes there is : * $db_url = 'mysqli://username:password@localhost/databasename';

where username = the database username
where password = the database password
where localhost = the location of your database server (it may be localhost or it may not. Hosting provider or knowledge base should answer this)
where database name = the name of your database.

Your explanation was very helpful.

I am connected now to the site's home page. But any idea why all my links are not working? When clicked, they all say 404 Not Found.

Did some files get dropped during the uploading process?
TIA.

two issues to check into

A) clear all your cache tables in the database
B) ensure your .htaccess file is in the root of your install

My guess is that you can navigate with unclean urls and not clean urls.

A secondary issue would be if the new host does not have the apache module mod_rewrite enabled on the server. If it does not, you can't use clean urls.

Thanks, VM for your suggestions.

Since I didn't know how to clear my cache tables in the database, and whether Aplus is running the apache module mod_rewrite enabled on the server, I called them. The tech support was clueless but opened a ticket for me. I have no idea what they did, but I got a note the next day saying it was fixed, and it was.

I do have to give credit where credit is due.

They are one of the worst hosts ever, speaking from experience.

I still have domains with them but I'm looking for a good registrar to move my domains to, always had issues with this company. I choke when I see them listed on some paid review site as the top hosts, nothing but lies they suck.

I was with them for awhile until I moved to a new host. Their support is awful, they never respond to complaints and they sometimes charge you for service you didn't even sign up for. Their control panel is custom made and is crap. They are not Drupal friendly or web friendly for that matter.

I don't mean to sound negative, got nothing positive to say about Aplus, I can't wait until I'm free of them for good lol
