I've just added an autocompletion widget for CRM contacts. This would be a good addition for the CCK code as well :-)

I've updated this code in a form that should handle duplicate contacts.

Take a look at the implementation for node/add/civinode_contact. I haven't grokked how CCK does autocomplete yet, but that's what I'd recommend using as a basis.
