on node edit w/ no state change unpublishes node

in my case, at least... I have two states "draft" and "publish". draft -> publish publishes a node. publish -> draft unpublishes a node.

I've run into a situation where if I edit a published node (workflow state = publish, node.status = 1), and leave the workflow state alone (state=publish), the node will becomed unpublished (node.status = 0)! The workflow state does not change, only the status field in the node table.

This doesn't happen if I'm uid 1. There are no messages in the logs from action or workflow regarding this edit (and silent changing of node.status).

If I can do anything to help or be more clear, let me know.
