I've installed Drush and done all the tweaks to get it working (in Windows). Then I put drush_make as a folder in the drush folder. These are both outside my drupal hierarchy since I read that neither one is actually a drupal module.
But I can't get drush make to work. All the examples I've seen say to use "drush make my_build_file.make" - but drush never finds the "make" command. Am I missing something?... or did I put drush_make in the wrong place?

Anyone? My drush make doesn't work.

That's not where the instructions say to place the folder-- check the install.txt file again.
The install instructions are rather vague...
I read all the instructions. This is the entire INSTALL.TXT (for drush_make)...
The "You can put this folder..." part is from the drush instructions (not drush_make) and that's the part that is pretty vague. Besides, it seems to be Linux specific, so doesn't help me with a Win install.
So, instead of just pointing me back to the install files (which were no more help the second time around), why not just tell me where I should put drush_make to get it to work? My drush commands are working fine. It's only drush make that's not working.
TIA

Since you don't mention having read the instructions and the location in which you placed the files is not listed as one of the acceptable options, it seemed to me you did not read the instructions. And because the 3 places you can put it are already listed there-- why should I retype it?
For a windows user I would just use option 3 and place the files in drush/commands/drush_make.
That worked...
That worked... thanks for you help.

Because google is our friend and many more than the original poster could be helped by someone that is taking the time to type a response actually answering the question. Yes, I understand the give a man a fish concept, but thanks to indexed searches, you can still feed a whole community by posting actual answers to questions others may have.

Well said...
@bonked... Well said!
I can't count the times I was searching for an answer to some issue, and thought I had found it on Drupal.org, only to have my hopes dashed by reading incomplete (and rather unhelpful) threads. The ones that are equally frustrating are the ones where the original poster takes the time to come back and say "Never mind. I found the answer." - but doesn't take the time to elaborate for the benefit of others.
I do want to express my appreciation for all you guys out there who take the time to answer these (sometimes silly) questions - even if it is just to say RTFM (or INSTALL.TXT file). It's all helpful eventually. ;-)

Yes-- well said by someone who can't be bothered helping anyone else in the forums-- as is always the case with bs statements like this.
Sorry, I'm not about to waste time typing the same info over and over and over again for those too lazy to read the existing documentation because a bunch of people who help no one else say "yeah, me too!".
My free time is valuable to me and I'd much rather spend it helping those users that truly need it instead of those that can't be bothered to attempt helping themselves first.
You might try helping out in the forums for a while to experience first hand the useless number of threads that get posted because people can't be bothered to read the existing documentation before passing judgment on those of us that do.
Maybe you expect too much...
...of some of us who are fairly new to Drupal - and who are using Windows instead of Linux. I realize most (if not all) of those using Linux look down on anyone NOT using it. I don't even know if you fall into that group or not, but here's why I mention it... As I said, I did read the install.txt - but whenever I see instructions that are obviously for Linux (and the paths in the instructions *were* obviously Linux), I can't just assume that they will be the same on Windows. In fact, in all the threads in all the forums I've ever read when searching for help on issues - not just Drupal, but *any* issues - I've never seen the solution for Windows exactly match the solution for Linux.
As for "helping out in the forums", as you suggested to bonked, I would certainly be happy to (and *will* do so) whenever I feel comfortable enough with my knowledge of Drupal to, in fact, BE of some help.
As for my comment, I didn't mean for it to be flippant or in any way an indication that I do not appreciate the help of those who answer the many newbie questions here in the forum. And I do sincerely apologize if I struck a nerve. My comment was most likely the result of a particularly frustrating day dealing with several hard-to-solve problems.
In my evaluation of Drupal, I also went off on a couple of tangents and looked at CodeIgniter and Kohana - but came back to Drupal mostly because of the great supporting community it has. As for you personally (WorldFallz), I have seen your posts all over this forum, so I realize how much time and effort you devote here. Please know that it is appreciated.
