The footer in forum node's (and only there as far as I can see) has a left margin offset by 384 pixels according to Firebug. Elsewhere the offset is 0px. This offset makes the footer extend outside the right margin with 384 pixels.
I have attached a png which shows the effect of this error.

I'm not seeing this. #footer has margin: 0 auto; on all pages.

Could a module you have installed be responsible? Have you made modifications?

Also, the footer should be "clearing" the content area at all times. This should not happen. Makes me think there is a markup error somewhere. Have you tried validating?
