Hey there!
I just wanted to show you our Java portal in Argentina which is using Drupal and PHPBB.
There are some issues that we need to fix but overall it is working pretty well.
Users are managed by Drupal and PHPBB takes users from Drupal. I used the phpbb.module found here but had to modify it since it wasnt not working.
So people login, logout and manage their main account settings (username, email, and password) from Drupal and can change their notification issues in the phorum.
Sessions are shared so people can bo back and forth and keep logged in, in both places.
I know Drupalers from the first hour are not interested in integration of these two (which is ok, they dont have to) but at the same time many people like me believe Drupal forums are not as good.
I know some people might jump in saying that combining the right modules you can achieve the same...but I will answer ahead to say: I do not care, I prefer phpBB.
Hope you like it!
Claudia

There I was getting excited
There I was getting excited that you'd embedded a PHP CMS in a Java JSR168 Portal, when infact what you'd done was make a drupal portal *about* java. Lol.
It looks good. Can't read it, but it looks good.
Adam
I'm very interested
I think that is a good idea!
Can you post the modification or directly the link of download of phpbbmodule with your modification??
Thanks a lot!!!
How did you do it?
Claudia, the integration that you achieved looks pretty nice. How did you do it? Could you give out some tips? I'm running a site based in Drupal, I tried to use the Drupal's forum, but nobody of liked it, so I had to install a new PHPBB site. I've been looking how to integrate both, but I haven't found how.
Gracias y excelente trabajo!
:)
Thanks for the comments!
People,
I will try to upload the module somewhere today and let you know.
Thanks for the kind replies and about the portal....well yeah..many Java users complain about the fact that we use a PHP portal, but hey Drupal rocks and the portal is for free and the java hosting is not :P
Greetings and I will update you so you can use it!

PS: The title ended up to me misleading...sorry

cool
Cool, thanks for putting it back out there. I'll look at it over the next month or so (busy busy, moving a couple of sites to 4.7) and I'll see what I'll take over.
Two tips, based on your comments to the module:
You can get most of the extra profile fields by creating the custom drupal profile fields. It's a naming convention, if the field has the same name as a phpBB-field, it will get transferred (a few exceptions, like bbcode settings etc.).
The other thing is that you don't have to modify phpBB code, just go under configuration and require admin to accept all registrations . This module has actually saved me from a ton of spambots this way :)
One issue i have with Drupal.org is that the discussions are very decentralized. But that's another story ;)
Most of the complaints people have regarding the module I never hear, or only much later. I can't follow 20 different threaded discussions. Please use the issue-system attached to the module if there's something you want me to know about or consider changing. You still have to be on Clauz' level to reliably use this module, but maybe it'll become a bit easier over time.

Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the comments and thanks for developing the module.
I will take under consideration what you mention and see if I can improve it further. It is true the fact that things are kind of scattered....but it is hard to keep it all under one thread.
Anyway, thanks a lot mate!
