Users on my site like to download the PDF version of the paper. We are using Issuu.com which is great but people would like to download the whole publication as a pdf.

My idea is create an article taxonomy where they can just show the synapisis of that months paper and a download link to the pdf. It will be a view with the newest one first. Fine and dandy.

Can anybody think of a more creative way to do this. I don't even need the synapsis. I just need the date and vol. of the paper in a long list. I would like to look good though. I just don't want to put too much work into. What's the easiest way at this point to make a list of PDF file look good?

Here's how I did something similar. You can see the page at www.allisonmission.com/newsletters. Here's the code for that page:

<p>These documents are provided in PDF format. You may need the free <a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html" target="_blank">Adobe Reader</a> to view them.</p>
<?php
// comma separated lists of terms tid to display nodes
$terms = "6";

$sql = "SELECT n.nid
  FROM {node} n
  INNER JOIN {term_node} tn ON n.nid = tn.nid
  WHERE tn.tid IN ($terms) AND n.status = 1
  ORDER BY n.created DESC";

$result = db_query(db_rewrite_sql($sql));

if ($result) {
  while ($data = db_fetch_object($result)) {
    $node = node_load($data->nid);
    $no_pdf = "<div style='float: right;'>(No PDF)</div>";
    $link = $no_pdf . l($node->title, $GLOBALS['base_url'] . "/node/" . $node->nid);
    foreach( $node->files as $item ) {
      $link = l($item->filename, file_create_url($item->filepath));
    }
    $rows[] = array( $link );
  }
}

$header = array(
  array('data' => t('Allison Newsletter Archives')));

print theme('table', $header, $rows);

?>

Hope this is helpful.
