After I had already been using a custom fckstyles.xml file as well as using a manually specified set of css files without issue for a few weeks, for some reason they became frozen in time. Clearing the browser's cache, cookies, browsing history etc., trying it in a different browser altogether, clearing the drupal cache, visiting the themes page to clear the theme cache, and running cron all have no effect. Only by renaming and redefining the path to fckstyles.xml could I get the editor to show any changes. The stylesheets remain stuck at a previous state, even though the theme they belong to is showing the latest version. What's going on?

Of course I'd like the styles to stay current automatically, but even a manual refresh of some kind would be great. Any suggestions?

That's odd, it shouldn't happen. Some weird proxy issue? Have you tried fetching the styles.xml directly using your browser?
