After turning on user web stats I've noticed that the JSON paging is being listed under Recent hits. In the time it has taken to notice and write this post it has generated 10 pages of hits. In other words it renders web stats generated through "admin/reports/settings" on as pretty useless.

I think between this module and the web stats module there are code changes needed.

Do you have any advice on what can be patched to sort this?

This can't be changed, atleast not in a way that I know.

pmgrowl *does* hit that page for every user every 30s, there is no way around that, not with a huge architecture change.
