I am a bit confused as I cannot get this to work with views arguments or filters.

This would be the main reason to have a module like this to sort throught the content taxonomy

Is there something I may not have configured?

Currently for me this is working simply as a select box from my taxonomy term with no functionality so i am trying to figure out how to get it to work like the core taxonomy

Can you clarify what is not working? I use content taxonomy fields as filters and arguments on a number of my views, and it works fine.

Is your question about why exposed filters in views are given as a select box rather than an autocomplete? If so, see:
