I have a Google Custom Search on my site and when I search for a keyword, on page one, before any nodes are displayed, Taxonomy Term pages appear where the keyword is referenced in a teaser. Is there anyway to prevent taxonomy pages from appearing in Google search results? Is it wise to disallow access to taxonomy term pages (path) via robots.txt?

Use robots.txt to prevent taxonomy pages from being crawled. That's the best bet. It may also help avoid duplicate content issues.
