Hi, James!

I'm looking to essentially duplicate this map: http://code.google.com/soc-map.html to show users with a profile field set to "student" in one colour, and "mentor" in another. I poked around (very) briefly and didn't see any built-in functionality for doing this. If I'm not missing something obvious, I'll probably go ahead and try and roll a patch for this (possibly a gmap_profile.module contrib module?) but wanted to check with you first to see if I'm missing something obvious before I embark on this quest. ;)

I think this is a great idea. Others have requested similar type feature before.

Hopefully, it is simple enough that it can simply be part of the gmap_location.module. (As long as it doesn't require the installation of profile.module and it doesn't need any new tables, I think including it in gmap_location would be fine. If it is much easier to program it such that it requires the profile module to be installed, then having it as a separate module would be a good idea).

Wow, thanks for the quick response! :)

Ok, assigning to me. I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to implement this but hopefully sometime this week.

I couldn't find a workable solution to firing this on a profile field, due to the huge array of profile fields types and values possible. So I switched this instead to offer the option of showing different colours per role. See http://2006.planet-soc.com/?q=map/users for a demo.

...and that would be a patch.

Thanks that is really cool, I like it.

The cvs version now includes this. I extended your idea of using select forms to all of the marker lists in the settings page. One thing I added was to include the different types of markers in the subdirectories.
