Drupal is a content management system (CMS) built on the PHP and MySQL combination (detailed requirements here). I've been working with the latest version since its release at the beginning of this month. Drupal 4.7 is a significant upgrade that brings major short- and long-term benefits to users and distributors of the system. It brings Drupal back to the cutting edge of CMS development.

Just thought I'd add this missive from the same review...useful for people migrating from other CMS tools and are worried that the add-on (contributed) module list is a little bald...

Drupal treats all content -- be it a blog post, static page, or your latest podcast -- as a node. Different node types can be mixed together, grouped into categories, extended through modules, and included in customisable RSS feeds. Treating content items in this abstract sense gives Drupal the ability to manage an almost limitless range of content using just its core features, in comparison to other tools that are limited to working with just pages or posts or that require these entities to be treated separately. This abstraction means that, although Drupal cannot boast as large a range of contributed modules as projects such as Mambo or WordPress, each contributed module tends to have a wider range of applications in which it can be used.

As an aside..should we have a more visible press section on Drupal.org?

Some of those independent reviews are very well worded...in non techy-speak that might be a useful resource for people checking Drupal out. As long as you don't quote the full article, instead just using soundbytes or extracts with a link to the full article...that's considered "fair usage" in copyright terms.

The right place would be in the "About Drupal" handbook, IMHO.

A better idea is to create a "Press" forum under "General" and maybe link it from the front page.

This is an excellent review on current situation of drupal. The npov and comparison with competitors such as joomla is excellent.
But in choosing a content management / portal system there is a big committment to the future development of the chosen system which is not wholly informed by feature comparison.
What is left me asking however is how does drupal as a group handle vision, growth, design clarity, differences of opinion. It it blending with a commercial skeleton or does it need to?
And why does it appear to undersell itself or is this justifiable in comparison to forerunners like Nuke or competitors like joomla.
