I think it makes sense to implement this. After all, if a user has this permission, he/she should be able to edit the comment anyway. Personally, I wanted to have this behavior in combination with the Forum Access module.

The attached patch works for me.

I agree, as per feature it doesn't really fit, but then again the time limited editing didn't fit either. I am fine with this module becoming some sort of comment feature extension, perhaps for d7 i should start a new project so the name better reflects that.

coming back to this issue: it makes sense and the change is simple enough, committed. Could you test the dev version so I can roll an official release sometime soon?
