Do you think that in future will start a new node_gallery for drupal 7?
Comments
Comment #1
kmontyWe need to fix some remaining bugs in 6.x then we will create a 7.x-3.x branch.
portait commentedRemaining about 135 bugs open I guess that node gallery for drupal 7 is not around the corner, is it?
By the way, I love this module. To me, this module is the first real user album gallery module. :)
justintime commented@portrait - there's 135 *issues* open. Those are things like support requests, etc. Only 30 are tagged as bugs.
But yes, a D7 version of this module is quite a ways off. There will be no new features added to 2.x, and 3.x is pretty much a complete rewrite for D6 which hasn't even entered alpha yet. D7 won't be started until 3.x is released stable.
Personally, I haven't even looked at D7 yet short of playing with my Drupal Gardens beta account - I have no idea how much work it will take to make it work in D7.
portait commentedThank you for clarifying.
dddave commentedComment #7
Lennard commentedThe drupal 7 is now in release candidate its really stable and i needs a node gallery for D7.
For relaunch from D6 to D7. Buts today give not information about port status to D7.
justintime commentedThere is no status of a D7 version, it hasn't even started yet. The best case scenario would be that we might start in April or May, but I really doubt even that.
Lennard commentedI think its come in January the first stable of D7 and the porting of the moduls must begin earlier
before the release day. Many people have D7 today in use and its run fine with no critical bugs.
A porting node gallery at Juni/July by starting in April or May is a little bit late for me, so i must
portet for myself ....
Looks all here -- >> http://drupal7releasedate.com/
Release Date set to January 2, 2011 !!
scroogie commentedThe porting doesn't come for free, especially because modules that build the fundament of node gallery have changed heavily. The Database API, File API, CCK inclusion and change to Field API, imagecache inclusion, render array changes, etc. imply a *lot* of work.
justintime commentedDon't forget that all the batch API stuff will need refactored as well.
scroogie commentedTrue true. The update page is really insane this time: http://drupal.org/update/modules/6/7
On the other hand, there is a lot to look forward to as well. :)
scroogie commentedYesterday I read up on D7 a bit. I read through that update page for example. Some of the changes I didn't expect (permission specificiation, nodeapi, etc.). Will be even more work than I thought. Just to keep it on the radar, it would be great if we could make the Gallery <-> Image relationship a proper Drupal object in the D7 version. It bugs me that it's not a real field in D6. Perhaps something reusable comes out of http://drupal.org/project/relation
Otherwise we can check how taxonomy is implemented in D7.
dddave commentedJust as a heads-up in case you haven't seen it already: http://boombatower.com/blog/new-online-tools-porting-your-module-d7
Comment #15
scroogie commentedMhm, that just outputs an empty file for me.
justintime commentedHeh, I was going to report that I got the same result after tagging alpha2 :(.
Lennard commentedI haved understand i like looks to come never a node gallery for D7.
Its better to say it clearly i will not begging for little bit info about port plan and status of that.
All the available infos and developments are only ever D6.
So must find another way to work without this modul.
scroogie commentedNo, there will definitely be a Node Gallery for D7. It's only a question of time. Perhaps we'll start once 3.0 is stable.
Lennard commentedOh thats heard good because i hope it comes in 2011 it show to be the development
is an unlimited project with no end. A long time development and still on alpha status :((
Comment #20
scroogie commentedI'd like to keep this postponed, so we can drop some notes and thoughts here now and then. There are many articles about D7 right now, which might lead to ideas we can build upon later.
To reinforce the point in #13, I really think we should employ the entity/bundle concept that Drupal 7 introduces. There is many related talk. I hope it's okay if I store some links here:
Drupal Entities - Part 2 - The what, where and when of Entities
Drupal has some (entity) relationship issues
How Drupal 7 Fields are changing the way you write modules
The message module might be a good example for a module ported to entity API https://github.com/fago/message
Comment #21
SB commentedD7 will be released soon (only a matter of hours)!
Is there any hope that Node Gallery will have a release soon or do we need to keep using D6 for our websites.
Lennard commented@sb
The answer is in few post earlier.Porting to D7 is now not starting the maintainer will first
makes the 6x.3.0 stable before begin the porting of node gallery.
The work of the NG3 looks like a never ending story because a year and its still on alpha status.
So never can say how long we must wait for a node gallery. Personally i dont need a 6.x stable of NG3
my websites run only on D7. But i be not the maintainer :((
Comment #23
scroogie commentedA 6-3.0 version of Node Gallery is not far out at all. We only have a clear picture of how our versioning should go. We have some things to straighten out before we release a beta version, which is really close. This is only because we don't want beta versions to break because of new functionality or showstopper bugs. This doesn't mean that 3.x-dev is currently unstable. Versioning isn't linear. In my opinion, we're just two issues away from beta. You can follow our development here: #687848: Status of Node Gallery 3.x.
After that, we only have documentation and testing that seperate us from a final release. The community can really help us with that. It's easy to write a small paragraph of how you can create a certain configuration or type of gallery, but it's exactly what we need right now. Once that is done, we can concern ourselves with the 7.x version. So the more people help, the faster it will go.
On a more general note, the work on a 6.x version is not lost in terms of Drupal 7. We learn a lot while developing 3.x, which will directly improve the version for D7. As already mentioned, the D7 version will also require some architectural rethinking, which might depend on other modules. E.g. http://drupal.org/project/relation doesn't have a release at all yet.
justintime commentedJust some notes to store for later when we actually have time to look into D7:
I tried using Jimmy's sweet update tool at http://upgrade.boombatower.com/ but it produced an empty tar.gz. I emailed him, and got this back:
So, we just need to comment out that foreach to get the tool to do it's thing.
Lennard commentedIts clear the http://upgrade.boombatower.com/ run not so good its better to use a D7 Drupal installation
and use the newest Coder Modul to upgrade the most features.
The Coder works fine but no with imagecache_presets() because in D7 is imagecache within D7
and named image_style API. So must imagecache_presets() renamed to image_styles().
Presetname is now name etc. imagecache_actions() is now image_effects().
but the coder can not port dificults database syntax only the symple syntax can converts without
INNER JOIN etc.
And D7 have no lightbox or lightbox2 support in D7 is now colorbox the future.
I have good idear its lets go to porting ^^
Greets Lennard
Comment #26
Lennard commentedI see in the Status Page !
Congratulations for makes the NG3 stable.
I hope it looks like good that we D7 users become a NG Modul too !
Lennard commentedA good thing where its available a Drupal 7 status page for node gallery Modul.
So its better to see its possible to wait or not for own Projects.

Lennard commentedAt first is sayed to 6.x is needs bugs removed to port a D7 modul.
And now is 6x. bugs removed and adding more features and more features for the 6.x users.
And whats is with the D7 users ?
justintime commentedLennard: It will be ready Real Soon Now. Now, please stop posting about it, if you want it so bad then perhaps you should code it up yourself instead of posting in this thread every few days.
Sorry to all the other peaceful subscribers on this thread, but our friend Lennard here has posted 10 updates to this thread in the last month and it's getting old. A D7 module will happen, but it will not happen for some time. Once work begins, this thread wil be updated.
dddave commentedOr maybe Lennard could fund your time or Scroogie's for a D7 version...
As long as these updates stop I would be fine with it. ;)
Lennard commentedAt first i be friendly... i want only little concrete infos about.
I have attempt with a porting self. Buts its little difficult for my because its not my
project for the maintainer its more easy than for me.
i have little problems to converts the create node types install routine.
- imagestyle works.
- install tables ok.
- now i be have trouble to changed the NG3 Node API to new D7 node api.
If anybody wants help so let me know....

Looking forward to use a D7 version :)
techgirlgeek commentedAdding my name to those looking forward to the D7 version of this module. Have a project coming up that I really want to build in D7, and feel this module would be the best one for what I want to do. Can do it without it, but this would be a HUGE help.

Lennard commentedI haved right here is only priority to D6.
Its only adding more and more features to this never ending D6 Alpha project.
Its better to switch to Gallery Formatter to give D7 the future. ^^
Comment #44
dddave commented@Lennard
Please shut the fuck up!
The world isn't centered around your desire for a D7 version of NG. In addition you haven't done a lick to help here. Your constant whining is helping nobody. You impertinence is disgusting.
Both scroogie and justintime have done an awesome job so far and spent countless hours to built an awesome D6 gallery tool. Both are having private/own commitments at the moment which prevent a faster finish of NG3 but both have been absolutely transparent about that.
Lennard commented@dddave
You can this say to your friends and not me.
I said my opinion and you can only insult me, it better to lern a better terms.
We are here in Drupal.org and not in the Ghetto !
And nobody here is whine thats only facts. And i want it help and here is nobody responded.
We all respect the limited times we all have a privat life.
Because that i will all sayed it gives alternate modules and that helps and so its not
really necessary to makes a D7 Modul that save the time for the developers for their future.
And really transparent is that not because this is the thread for D7 i can not see any new infos
about them.It is not really difficult to give little infos in this thread or musst everone reads hundred
ob D6 threads to become little info.
The info that i wrote is helpful for any users they want start with a D7 project now.
Thats really better than give the users no infos about them.
And for you personally who has you said that is D6 centered of all, the D7 is not the center
and D6 is it not too thats is reality.
You can see its possible to write without any f-words.
And the community is users helps users so i help all they needs to begin with a D7 project
follow helpful infos about a alternate module names
Gallery formatter --> http://drupal.org/project/galleryformatter
dddave commentedAlthough my choice of words was rude and certainly not in line with what we want here on drupal.org users like you are plain and simple the death of any open source community.
You provide absolutely no positive input. Your tracker shows that you haven't provided anything to the community at all. You are plain and simple trolling and hassling two very active community members who unlike you are doing something valuable for the community.
You are one of those vampires who think if they request something they get it asap and for free. You are pissing on the hard work the maintainers have done and disregard that their lives might not be centered around coding NG 24/7.
You obviously have not the least understanding how this community works or how to be socially in any regard.
Think about your despicable behavior and please refrain from any further whining.

Lennard commented@dddave
Yes i see you are the only and the best ... yeeaahh.
Please read my post correct and than you can answer of this correctly.
It goes about information etc. What you want is only everone must have your
oppinion, and have someone other oppinion you will him verbose to talk about them.
Only what you makes is play here big boss and destroy any constructive discussion.
And a other thread is you can't say nothing about what i give to community
because you can not see in my profil i works activ with many others developers together
to helps their projects further. Its possible that you have profit from this in past time.
Thanks !
scroogie commentedI don't understand most of what you're trying to say there, Lennard, but you're certainly not doing anything constructive here. The port to 7.x would also comprehend changes to the basic data model, it's not as easy as feeding it to the converter. The thing is, we want to finish 3.x first to have something solid to base our work on. About the progress on 3.x, yes, it's going slowly at the moment. Both justin and me are really busy with our day work right now. Together with the time difference, this currently hinders our collaboration on this module. But people can help us easily. There are patches in the queue that did not receive any review. It's as easy as installing the most recent dev version of the module, applying the patch, and testing if everything works. There is also documentation to work on, which is doable by everyone who uses the module. It only needs very basic HTML markup, but we can also do that, so even raw text contributions to the documentation inside the issue queue would be helpful. In other words: If you wan't NG for D7, helping us to get 3.0 out would be the sensible thing to do.
dddave: Thanks for your kind words.
Greetings
Comment #50
parasox commentedI feel like responding at all to this ridiculous thread isn't doing any good, but I'd just like to say that after being a NG 2.x user who upgraded to 3.x, it was a huge leap forward and a ton of work went into it. It's absolutely the correct thing to do to see that project through (and then going on vacation) before really looking at D7 at all. Thanks! :)
Lennard commented@ scroogie
Ok i haved understand the freedom of oppinion is here not allowed.
We all makes now use the same dddave's fuck-words thats really good and show all
the respect from users to users.
And i want help you at the time i haved still using D6 but now i never
goes back this version sorry....
I respect all your works here scroogie i have never say others....i say sorry its so difficult
here the D7 users give little updates of informations.
And i have never say others here are not constructive thats insult came not from me.
That for me too personally.
Thanks and good luck.
