Following the documentation, I created a subsite and chose a theme. Then I added a node (a page I created), and marked the node to only display on the subsite. I then put the subsite menu block in the "sidebar first" region and restricted it to only display on the subsite. When I go to the node (e.g. http://www.example.com/node/53) the page/node displays fine with the correct theme, but the menu block for the subsite doesn't display. My admin block displays fine on the subsite when logged in.

You should add some stuff to the menu or it won't appear.

Thanks for the reply.

I added the first node (node/53) to the subsite. I added another one and it still hasn't made a difference. I may not be setting something up right, but I don't know what. Please see the screen grabs.

Am I not setting up the subsite correctly?

It will only appear on the subsite, so you don't need to set the menu block explicitly to "restricted it to only display on the subsite.".

Hi folk,

I am also having this problem. I installed the subsite module and created a subsite (called recipes) using its own theme. I added two nodes and marked them only to display on the subsite recipes. I created a page view as well and marked the page view only to display on the subsite recipes. I added items to the specific recipe menu and changed the blocks to display the recipe menu in the right hand side bar.

Clicking on the subsite specific content displays the content in the correct theme with the side bar menu.

What confuses me however is the following:
In the administration section, site building, blocks there is a block marked "Subsite menu". There is also another separate block for the recipe menu. I assumed that the "Subsite menu" block would be a block listing all the subsites that one has created so that one can link from the main site to the subsite without going into specific content. However, when I add this "Subsite menu" block an area of the page, nothing is displayed.

I also want to know how link from the main site to the subsite say as you would by creating a separate domain for the subsite, or linking to the subsite from a specific path.

Say your main site is called:
http://mydomain
I would like to be able to access the subsite say with the url
http://mydoman/recipes
or
http://myrecipes

About the "Subsite menu" block:

Suppose you have 4 subsites and 4 corresponding menus. Each of these menus has a block provided by the menu module. So one option might be to activate all these blocks. But these will be shown on each page.

What the subsite block does is pick only one of these 4 menus (or none) depending on the active subsite for that page.
