I'm nearing completion on a site that offers some Social networking capabilities built into the backend for customer/users (of course).
So far it is going well, using using FBSS, APK, Panels, Content Profile, Flags and User Relationships.
Where I get stuck is trying to mimic Facebook's "wall." I understand there's a lot of frustration in this area. I'm intrigued by Netrift's StatusBook module, but it seems more a distro than a viable standalone module.
I'm particularly impressed by their "corkboard/minicomment" sub-modules and how closely they mimic Facebook's wall. Unfortunately, they depend upon the rest of the module to work. Looking at that module, I don't see an easy path to using that functionality alone on an existing site.
I'd like to use the Facebook-style statuses module to do what I need (or as close as possible).
I'd love to hear ideas or see examples of how others have configured/used FBSS to build a "wall."
I'm overwhelmed by the many combination of configurations possible when integrating Panels, APK and FBSS. I can add one of three included views (or make my own), and each view has different blocks and pages available. There are also "widgets" and "user" configurations available to panels. And contexts available to those panels!
Ideally, I'd like to have users post to another user's "wall" and then have other people comment on those people's comments (or would that be called a 'status'?). Then those additions would appear on the posters and postee's walls for others to see. Additionally, I see Facebook.com also displays the profile-owner's most recent (current) status at the top of the page (see the StatusBook emo page above).
I don't think this is possible with out a lot of custom programming, so if anyone could offer ideas/examples for similar functionality, I'd appreciate it. I'm not foolish ebough to believe I'm going to get such cutting-edge functionality "straight out of the box."
Thanks!

Comments on FBSS statuses are on the agenda but the maintainer hasn't had time, yet. If this is a project with money available, you might want to try offering to hire him to add it. I'm anxiously awaiting the commenting ability, myself, but my project is just a hobby and so I can't offer any incentive to hurry it up.
