I can't get clean url's to work on one of my websites - strangest thing, because it works perfectly fine on another website that I have. When I run the "Clean URL test", it give me a 404 error. Here is my setup:

Drupal 4.7
Shared Apache Server with hosting company
drupal installed in /public_html/ folder; no subdirectories

I have tried the following:

Re-uploading .htaccess that came with Drupal
Editing .htaccess based on reccomendations from older posts on this forum

As it stands, here is the contents of my .htaccess file:

All my settings are the same on this site as they are on the other site which allows clean url's with no problem. Any suggestion?

Remove the # from the lines that you want to work.

Ex.

Change

  # If you want the site to be accessed only WITHOUT the www. , adapt and uncomment the following:
  # RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^example\.com$ [NC]

to

  # If you want the site to be accessed only WITHOUT the www. , adapt and uncomment the following:

I tried your rec... still couldn't get it to work... But I fixed it.

Basically what I ended up doing is deleting every file on my webserver up to the top level that I had access to for this site (it's a shared server) which was probably www/var/redboxcodes.com/ - I deleted everything, including the public_html folder, and everything else, left the databases intact. Went over to my other site that had clean urls working just fine, copied everything from the top level over to the "broken" site. Now it works fine. .htaccess is even the exact same. Weirdest thing...
