While everyone knows that getting exercise is good for your physical fitness it's sometimes hard to put this into action. So alone concerning yourself in sports is always a good start :) This is where the upcoming Football World Cup and this module steps in.

Description
With this module you can arrange a little game for your site users during the world cup. The aim is to predict the outcome of each match as close as possible and collect points for correct predictions.

You can try out the module and download it here.

As a football tragic I commend you for a great module - I cannot wait to try it out, just wanted to say I like your thinking.

I was scratching my head for the last two days, because i wanted to build a football betting game as my first drupal module.

But now i found your solution so i can stop brooding about how to accomplish something like that. I am curious how you built your module.
Thanks for sharing.
... and i also hope that germany wins. ...no i am quite shure, because:

Ein Spiel hat 90 Minuten und am Ende gewinnen die deutschen.

I have spoken to tenrapid over on his site so I thought I'd bring the conversation back over here.

Tenrapid has spoken of expanding his module to include leagues after the WC and I was wondering whether there was any other interest in a module of this type as I certainly am for my users. Something along the lines of a fantasy league would also be a welcome development. Any other interest?

As for the WC, as they say never write off the Germans (esp at home) but I really can't see them putting it together

Croatia as a dark horse but Holland, Spain and of course the Brazillians would top the list.

I would like to have a league module. It would be nice to make it more generic that it can be used not only for football :-)

If you need any input, suggestions ... feel free to contact me.

This is our current website ( http://www.volley-zoersel.be/cms/ploegen.asp , http://www.volley-zoersel.be/cms/wedstrijden.asp?do=search&week=13) that I would like to replace with Drupal.

Could trigger serious interest from new groups of users/communities if one of the aims were to have it serve as a "framework" for making variants of this type.

I believe that in the future we will see our work/desktop/collaboration environments ("merge with" and) be accessed from within a cool athmosphere of the kind used by some of the games. If Drupal can trigger serious interest from some gaming communities, we could see some very interesting developments - long term, that is. But already now a generic version of this one would be great.

I agree..a generic one would be great...

especially with the new premiership season starting soon in the UK..and La Liga in Spain. Not sure what's happening with italian football, but, I imagine taking your world cup module and extending it out for 20 teams in one league..might not be too difficult.

It's a fun and "sticky" community thing that would be a popular I think....

I found this: http://www.footiefox.com/ some days ago. It's a firefox extension that can display match results of matches in various international football leagues and of the worlcup. I was thinking about how they get to all these results and if it might be possible to read the data and use it (only with permission of footiefox developers of course) for a module like the one that you created. I don't have the knowledge of how to accomplish that, but maybe it's a idea for your next step.

I'm glad I searched the forums and not just the module list.

I've got 10 months before the start of the next Australian rules football home-and-away season, so I look forward to adding some alternative tipping methods (really just an option box for win-loss-draw).

Need a reliable place to check for, report and follow-up on "issues".
Before starting to really use it, such information is important, adds "credibility" etc. to the module.

A project page would be nice; I'd like to file a bugreport...

Via a support request on #drupal-support I found out that the module prevents theme switching on admin/block. The cause is the call to theme() in hook_menu. A fix would be to use theme_add_style.

tenrapid has not been logged in for while, but I've contact him/her and he/she is welcome to have cvs access. Next steps: convert to Drupal 5 and add Aussie Rules :-P
