Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. Why is there the beta8 release on the project page, instead of the beta9, which is recommended after installing the beta8?

No, it's 9 instead of 8 and 10 instead of 9 ;)

I am wondering the same thing. Acquia has Beta 10 in their latest release.
