I don't know if this is a bug or is by design:
When putting a "Check boxes/radio buttons" widget inside a multigroup, I have no way to obtain checkboxes in the node edit form: I always get radio buttons, regardless of the "Number of repeats" of the multigroup itself (I understand that the number of values of fields inside a multigroup is always set equal to the repeats of the multigroup itself).
It seems to me, that when a multigroup is set to "Unlimited", the "Check boxes/radio buttons" widget should show checkboxes.

This is "by design". Checkboxes manage multiple values, however each subgroup in a multigroup can only manage single values.
