Performancing lays a(nother) plug for Drupal
In his blog post this morning, Nick Wilson of Performancing - Helping Bloggers Succeed laid out a funny story about a new "Web2.0 Wine Website" and some of the mistakes that they've made in their site design, some of the relatively unspectacular features they've included, and why techcrunch would write about something like that.
The last thing I want to look at, is how you can do all of the above, every bit if ot, with almost no budget whatsover.
Remember my third question? "Wonder if they built that using Drupal?" Well, they didn't. If they had, they could have avoided a lot of those Search mistakes without having to even think about them.
Having read some of their site, and Mikes review, the only thing they're doing (planning on..) that may need some investment, is the "send to mobile" functionality. Even for that though there are relatively cheap web services that a drupal module could be built from easily. Everything else they've done Drupal can do pretty much out of the box.
Build a new module for the "wine" content type, and away you go, easy.
Emphasis in that quote is completely mine.
Performancing is itself a Drupal website and they provide a Firefox Extension and a set of Metrics that work in various "blog software" including Drupal.

interesting and funny..
As an aside from the main thrust of your point and the witty blog....I have recently being sorta referring to Drupal as one of the best "Web 2.0" tools out there in conversation or when talking to others who haven't heard of it.
It's fascinating how the mention of just "web 2.0" raises people's eyebrows....not unlike when people refer to "ajax" instead of "javascript".
in the context of "marketing Drupal", I wonder if there was a mini-rebranding of sorts of Drupal....i.e. instead of referring to it as a CMS..it was generally referred to as a "web 2.0" tool, what sort of traffic would that bring.
It's bandwagoning, I know, but, describing Drupal as a "CMS" doesn't really do it justice I think.
It's fresh in my mind, because we did a small Drupal site for the CONTENT 2.0 - The UKs digital media conference recently....where the likes of last.fm, myspace.com and other famous "web 2.0" type sites are attending. Most of which could be replicated using Drupal.

marketing
It is amazing what Marketing will do.
Say to people "I make websites" and they say "great so does my nephew" and then say "I make web2.0 social mashup websites" and they want to be your VC.
