Apache 1.3.29
PHP 4.4.1
MySQL 4.0.25

I've installed drupal, set up the database, and I'm receiving the following error message when I go to the main page:

error 403: Forbidden!
The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it. Authorization will not help and the request SHOULD NOT be repeated.

Any suggestions?

I get the same error... I tested 4.7.1. Not a very stable release...
I think it's best to settle with the 4.6 versions for now.

A standard Apache error or a Drupal error? To fix it you'll need to know whether it is Apache shutting you out or whether it is Drupal.

What do your logs say? Especially the Apache error log.

I'm not sure where to look to see if it is the apache. I uninstalled drupal and I'm getting a forbidden warning when I go to mywebsite.com. When I go to mywebsite.com/index.html I get the index page I have online. Drupal is gone and the problem stayed. Any suggestions?

It might be hidden from your FTP client.

Fixed. It had nothing to do with Drupal. It was the host. I'm doing this for a customer and they use 1and1 for their host. There was some sort of website creator that messes with the ftp. So, I "unhooked" that and now it is working fine. Thanks.

I have the exact same problem and I also have 1and1 as my hosting provider! I used to use their website builder, but I delete all those sites and I thought it should have been cleaned up now, but apparent now.... Thanks!
