using :hover with other than <a> links

I am having big problems on getting Cufon to work on the website I'm working on. I use :hover not only on 'a' tags but in some divs as well to change the styles for the front page and I think this in conflicting with Cufon somehow. Is there a know problem using Cufon and its support for :hover with other than 'a' links? How can I resolve this?
