Hello,

I'm wondering what the thoughts on waiting for Drupal 7 to be released (January 24th?) if I'm starting construction on a brand new site?

Should I try to push the client to wait a month while we complete wireframes and architecture so we can build on 7?

I would check the modules you think you will need to see if they have pledged to be available on the release of D7. With D6 some important modules where not available for months after the release.

Another thing to consider is release dates change.

Good points. Has Drupal said anything about the ease of the upgrade path would be like form 6 to 7?

There's no way D7 final will be released on January 24th. I wouldn't expect to see it before Spring. Even if you're willing to wait that long, there's still the matter of contributed modules catching up. I'd say Summer before it's realistic to start building sites on it unless you don't need much for contrib modules.
