Another glitch experienced with upgrading was with the subscriptions module. It started sending out notifications to 100's of folks not subscribed to anything every time I posted a new "story." I had to disable it, but I had several folks legitimately subscribed to stuff that now can't get their notifications either.

Reckon there's anything we can do about this?

I just encountered the same problem after an upgrade. My site went blank at the admin page for a while and when it came back, the admin log was littered with hundreds of messages for subscription notices sent out to all the users of the site. I had to disable the module temporarily.

Were you also using the category module by any chance?

No, no category module.

I'm using:

bbcode excerpt gsitemap paypal_framework print quote site_map
bookmarks feedback paging paypal_tipjar privatemsg scheduler subscriptions

and privatemsg is messed up too. it was working when first installed, and after a few hours the menu and comment links disappeared.
