Hello,

I'm trying to set up a test site on my Mac using Mamp and I'm having all sorts of trouble getting it to install. I'm able to install Wordpress and Xoops with no issues. With Drupal, I'm using all the default settings, I'm getting the following error message

Consider increasing your PHP memory limit to 16M to help prevent errors in the installation process. Increase the memory limit by editing the memory_limit parameter in the file /Applications/MAMP/conf/php5/php.ini and then restart your web server (or contact your system administrator or hosting provider for assistance). See the Drupal requirements for more information. (Currently using PHP memory limit 8M)

Then I reset that limit to 16m and it still won't install. This is really frustrating, I couldn't get it to install on Xamp on my PC Laptop and I can't get it to install in Mamp. Again, I know my User Info is correct because I'm able to install Wordpress, Xoops, Joomla, whatever with NO ISSUEs, but drupal is having fits. I'm ready to give up on the idea of ever using Drupal.

Even though I increased the limit to 16m, I'm still getting the same error message.

Ok, I think I know what's wrong, but I don't know how to fix the problem. The install script is asking for mysqli and postgre database name but NOT mysql. And I don't know how to get this working been messing with it for two freaking weeks.

You might try the Acquia Drupal Stack. http://acquia.com/downloads

I haven't tried it because there isn't a linux port but I will when they have one. Acquia is the commercial side of drupal just as Redhat is to Fedora.

I'll give that a try this evening. It's just really frustrating that on top of all my other issues with Drupal, I now have to add how unnecessarily difficult it is to even install the app. In the past I used Fantastico on my server to play with it, but now that I'm on a VPS I don't have fantastico and want to play with it locally.

Thanks, using the Acquia Stack worked perfectly!

Glad it worked for you. I am new to Drupal too and it can be frustrating when you get stuck.
