Hi,

I have a client's simple ecommerce site set up at http://www.redefiningdiet.com, using Ubercart. At first, there was only one product for sale, a book. I set it up with flat rate shipping and all was working well. Then, we added a teleseminar, which of course is not a shippable product. But Ubercart kept adding shipping charges to this product as well. Can somebody point me to any good documentation about how best to set up shipping on Ubercart with both shippable and non-shippable products?

FYI, I also tried using the ship by weight method, setting the weight of the teleseminar to zero, and the weight of the book to 1 lb. This method did not add any shipping charges to the checkout at all.

I also tried connecting the checkout to my client's USPS web tools account, but that only produces an error at checkout so I turned it off.

I can't seem to get shipping to work at all with Ubercart. And I have been unable to find any good documentation for best setups. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There should be a checkbox on the create/edit product page that says 'shippable product' - unclick it for a non-shippable product...

Hi Eric,

I thought I had tried that, but decided to checl one more time. I set up the flat rate once again, and checked that the tele-course was unchecked like you suggested. Seems to have worked. Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate it.

Still not sure why i was getting an error with the usps web tools, but now I don't really care.

Best,
Bob

I've realized that with flat rate shipping, I can set a base shipping charge per order, and a per item shipping charge. I had originally set the base charge at $2.95, and per book charge at $2, so that 1 book would be $4.95, 2 books would be $6.95, etc.

Eric's answer above made me realize that the system was not charging the per item shipping charge for any item marked as non-shippable (or more correctly, unmarked as shippable). However, the system still charged the base shipping charge, even if only a non-shippable item was purchased.

I've gotten around this for now by setting the base shipping price to $0, and the per book charge to $4.95. So if you ordered the seminar, there would be no shipping charged. BUT, if you order multiple books, you are charged full shipping price per book. This can't be right.

Doesn't it make sense that is an item is non-shippable, and only a non-shippable item is purchased, that there should be no base shipping charge applied to the order?
