i added the gmap address field to a content type, the search returns 404. also what is administrative area etc, how do i change this form to US stndards i.e strret, city etc?

Try to do the following at administer >> site configuration >> google maps tools (admin/settings/gmaps):

- at the "API settings" section: disable Geocode cache (404 error),
- at the "Address settings"/"Labels" section: change field labels as you like.

Th administrative area field holds the "top category of addresses" within a country. This is the state in the US, the province in Canada, the county in the UK, etc.
