Hi:

Is there any reason why a civispace site might feel slower than a drupal site?
My drupal site is 4.6.5 and the civispace is 0.8.3

Civicspace is just drupal with extra modules, so it could be that the extra modules that are part of the civicspace core are just slowing you down. You could try and add the civicspace modules to your drupal site and see if it slows down the same way.
