I'm using taxonomy_terms, and would like to show the author and creation date at the top of each tagged item. Is there a way to do this? In Views, I'm not able to add additional fields to show, because it says, "The style selected does not utilize fields."

You'll need to change the "Row style" setting from "Node" to "Fields" before you'll be allowed to specify fields for a particular view.

Exact. If you want to show it together with the teaser nodes, you have to use theming of the row.
