It would be nice if one could create a Select List for Links. In this case you would create an Allowed Value List by pre-specifying the Link Titles and Link URLs. Users would choose from this controlled list based on the Link Title when creating content.

This would be helpful when a direct link to an external site is sought and it could serve as a way to manage links if one had the option to go back and update the Link URLs via the Allowed Value list.
