So if I am using drupal 4.6 and I would like to scp my images (hundreds.) up to the server and create image galleries is there a simple way to do that ?

I do not even want to think about uploading 1 at a time through a webpage. Maybe be able to add the images to a gallery in bunches and then add comments perhaps.

Has anybody ever done something like this ?

The image_import module may do what you are looking for. It can be found at http://drupal.org/project/image_import

Unless you're on 4.7 then you have to wait for the 4.7 version.

I only know this because my client reminds me they need it desperately a couple times a day.
