Background:

I have now built a few fairly simple but sizeable sites in Drupal over the last 6 months or so.

I would say I am now beyond a beginner, perhaps now in the early intermediate stages.

I have a few blog sites to build for our own business. These would be fairly straightfoward, such as blog posts, categorisation, calendar, pictures uploading features etc..

My Question:

Should I use Wordpress, or now that I know Drupal, should I use Drupal for these blog sites?

In other words is there any advantage to using Wordpress over Drupal for this kind of site?

Please share your thoughts on this.

Thanks,
Sam

I use drupal because it has become my CMS of choice. However, I would say it really depends on the current needs of the clients and their possible future needs as well as the time it would take to build the sites.

I would like to hear more on this topic.

this is, of course, the stuff of flame wars.

that said, for the type of clients i work with, both software packages do have their place. i recently heard language that i liked summarizing the difference (i think from the folks at Lullabot): Drupal is a "framework" while WordPress is a "product".

there is of course a lot of effort going into changing this, with the new emphasis on Drupal installation profiles, but the basic point still stands: WordPress does less, but does it simply, with a really clean UI; Drupal is capable of much, much more, but takes more work to customize and deploy.

in general, if i just need blogging and very simple, stock page management capabilities -- i.e. i can get 95% of what i need done with WordPress core -- and if budget and timing are tight, i go with WordPress. if i need anything fancier, or can even dream up future scenarios where i'll want to extend and customize site functionality, i move straight to Drupal.
