With the latest (v1.1.4.6 2006/05/16 20:46:12) version of this module, if I set the user email address to be read only, then when a user tries to change their *password* they get a "email address field is required" error.

I haven't looked at the code, but I assume that in "greying-out" the email address it has somehow also been "blanked".

My settings are: admin defined restrictions, only DENY changes to selected fields, user fields=mail

Tonights module build should have the fixed code included.
