Creating group homepages with announcements

I'd like to create multiple 'homepages', with a link to create announcements or short news stories on the homepage that will then instantly appear on the homepage, almost like how comments work. I'm not trying to have these be actual homepages that load on login - just dedicated pages for some activity committees. I'm thinking the announcements will need to be their own content type, since I want to have a block on my main homepage that has a list of recent announcements (which I think I can do with Views). These homepages would also have an editable body (permissions controlled by role), like how a story or page works. I don't want to just rename comments to announcements, since I do want to have comments in a different part of my site. I've looked at OG, but I don't need all the membership features, and it just clutters the interface. Can anyone point me in a direction I should take? Thanks.
